Lt. Col. James A. Blackman is Commander, 56th Component Maintenance Squadron, Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. He leads and directs the largest CMS in Air Education and Training Command, consisting of more than 300 maintenance technicians. The squadron executes an $80 million annual budget and is responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of 150 assigned engines and performing on-/off- equipment maintenance for 138 F-16 aircraft.

Colonel Blackman received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1997 as a graduate of San Diego State University. He has served as Aircraft Maintenance Unit OIC, flight commander and maintenance operations officer. His career in aircraft maintenance includes support of F-15, C-130, RQ-4A, U-2, C-17 and F-16 aircraft. Colonel Blackman's deployment experience includes leading two contingencies supporting Air Combat Command's intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission for operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  Prior to his current assignment, he was Commander, 437th Maintenance Operations Squadron, Charleston AFB, S.C.
