Chief Master Sergeant David R. Staton is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 56th Fighter Wing, Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. He is responsible for the morale, welfare, training, management and professional growth of 5,000 enlisted personnel assigned to the Air Force's largest fighter wing. The wing's mission is to train F-16 pilots and maintainers while deploying mission-ready warfighters. As part of Air Education and Training Command, and home to more than 138 F-16 aircraft and 24 squadrons, the 56th is the largest fighter wing in the U.S. Air Force and graduates more than 300 F-16 pilots and 500 crew chiefs annually. The wing oversees the Gila Bend Air Force Auxiliary Field and is steward of the Barry M. Goldwater Range, a military training range spanning more than 1.7 million acres of Sonoran desert.
Chief Staton grew up in Gentry, Ark., and entered the Air Force in June 1988. His diverse career includes various duties as an Information Manager, Master Military Training Instructor and First Sergeant at bases in Michigan, Texas, Arkansas, Colorado and Japan, with deployments to Southwest Asia and Afghanistan. He previously served as Superintendent of the 319th Training Squadron, Lackland AFB, Texas, and 738th Air Expeditionary Advisory Group, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan.
Prior to his current assignment, Chief Staton was the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 10th Air Base Wing, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. He advised the commander and senior staff on matters of military readiness, morale, quality of life and professional development of more than 3,000 military, civilian and contract personnel assigned to the Air Base Wing.
