2012: Year in Review
Senior Airman Michael Emerson, 56th Operations Support Squadron Air Traffic Control, works out Aug. 14 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center. Although cardio is an effective way to burn fat and calories, a toned body isn’t accomplished by spending hours only on the treadmill or track. Strength training is equally important. Strength training reduces body fat, increases lean muscle mass, helps develop strong bones and boosts stamina. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Grace Lee)

The paintball armed M-4 rifles, took the place of live ammunition, providing Airmen the opportunity to take and practice live-fire defensive postures. Training was conducted by instructors with real-world combat experience, some recently returning from deployment. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Louis Vega)
