COLONEL RYAN E. RICHARDSON

Colonel Ryan E. “RY” Richardson is the Commander, 56th Mission Support Group, Luke AFB, Arizona. In this capacity, he leads 1,800 military and civilian personnel across six squadrons assigned to the Air Force’s largest Fighter Wing; enabling the posture of combat ready Airmen and the development of the world’s greatest fighter pilots. He oversees a one hundred million dollar operating budget and directs a diverse mission portfolio including physical and cyber base defense, firefighting operations, communications, supply, transportation, fuels, contracting, force support, engineering, and combat readiness.

Colonel Richardson received his commission in 1998 through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at South Dakota State University. He has served in a variety of assignments at base, major command, forward operating agency, secretariat, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Combatant Command, and Joint Staff levels. Colonel Richardson has deployed in support of Operations JOINT FORGE and ENDURING FREEDOM; and recently served forward as the Director, Manpower, Personnel, and Services (AFCENT/A1) in support of Operations INHERENT RESOLVE, FREEDOM’s SENTINEL, and the Resolute Support mission. He previously commanded at the squadron level and served as the Executive Officer to the Commander, Air Force Personnel Center. Additionally, he has served in the AF Colonel’s Group and the U.S. Air Force Selection Board Secretariat. Most recently he served as the Chief, Special Operations Support Team (SOST) for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Washington DC, serving as the senior military advisor to USAID leadership on USSOCOM related operations, activities, planning, and actions facilitating interagency coordination, development, and partner building.
