Remembering Bataan
More than 5,700 participants stand by to begin the opening ceremonies at the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., March 21. The event included 22 survivors of the Bataan Death March in 1942. "One of the survivors sounded off during role call and it was so strong it sounded as if he was 20 years old again," said Jerry Haupt, 56th Security Forces Squadron standardized evaluations superintendant and retired SFS master sergeant. "The strength he still has blows my mind and that's why he was able to get through what he did." (U.S. Air Force photo courtesy 56th Security Forces Squadron)
