Wildland fire is a serious threat to the Sonoran Desert ecosystem. A perfect and unfortunate combination of weather patterns and vegetation growth led to high-risk fire conditions and several large fires during the summer of 2005. These dead trees were killed when a fire swept across part of the Area B public use area at the Barry M. Goldwater Range-East in Arizona.
