LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Several officers from the 56th Mission Support Group received an in-depth look at how the 56th Security Forces Squadron fits into the Luke Air Force Base mission during a squadron immersion April 12.

"Doing this is important because it helps them understand what security forces does and how we contribute," said 1st Lt. Andrew Stolten, 56th SFS logistics and supply officer-in-charge.

The day started with a briefing in the SFS conference room. There the officers learned the capabilities SFS brings to Luke and the deployed environment. The group also toured the confinement area and the base defense operations center.

The officers were trained in handcuffing, searching, challenging, baton use and the use of nonlethal force.

After completing the training, the group visited the kennels to hear a briefing on the military working dog mission and watched a demonstration.

"Being an animal person, I loved the MWD portion of today," said 2nd Lt. Samantha Yolangco 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron readiness officer-in-charge. "It was interesting to see how man and dog interact, and how obedient the dogs are."

The group then visited Combat Arms Training and Marksmanship for a weapons competition.

"I believe that it's a huge benefit to do immersions, because it instills pride in the unit since we have our Airmen training and teaching the officers about our unit," Stolten said. "Having the Airmen lead events throughout the day is a great opportunity to showcase all of the hard work they do on a day-to-day basis."

The officers left with a better understanding of how SFS contributes to the base's mission.

"Today gave me a greater appreciation for everything our Airmen do and all of the security measures they implement to keep our base safe," Yolangco said.

The group ended the day with a briefing from Maj. Quoc-Nam Nguyen, 56th Contracting Squadron commander.
