ESOH CAMP underway Published April 29, 2011 By Airman 1st Class David Owsianka 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Inspection teams across Luke Air Force Base performed a base-wide internal Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Compliance Assessment Management Program inspection Monday through today. The ESOHCAMP is a base-level auditing program for achieving compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Internal assessments are conducted yearly, and external assessments are conducted every three years. The last external assessment took place last year. "We look at air permit compliance, hazardous material and waste management, the Hazard Communication Program, and general safety with an eye on chemicals and personal protective equipment," said Jeff Rothrock, 56th Civil Engineer Squadron environmental chief. The purpose is to manage environmental, safety and occupational health risks while continually enhancing Luke's overall performance. This helps the base improve compliance with legal requirements, ensures the safety and protection of Airmen and their families, and protects the environment. The safety and occupational health management system also addresses significant environmental impacts. "The program exists to support the warfighter and safeguard the environment, work force and community," Mr. Rothrock said. "Each Airman must know how their activities affect environment and must strive to continuously improve environmental performance." The internal ESOHCAMP results will be received by Luke the following week after completion to show how the Thunderbolt team has incorporated environmental awareness into everyday business. "The inspection is an opportunity for us to validate that Luke has incorporated environmental awareness throughout the base to ensure mission success and compliance is a standard practice of what we do day in and day out," said Lt. Col. John Thomas, 56th Civil Engineer Squadron commander.
