As construction crews repair and resurface Litchfield Road in the City of Glendale, Luke Air Force Base commuters using the North and South gates can expect short periods of closures and traffic delays.

The paving of Litchfield Road has already started south of Luke and will continue northward in separate phases, according to Albert Regal, 56th Civil Engineer Squadron. Each will affect Luke gates at different times.

Sept. 22 - North Gate will close for six hours to allow construction crews to complete road work, from 8 p.m. Sept. 22 to 4 a.m. Sept. 23. Lightning Gate will not be affected by construction and will remain open.

Sept. 27 - Crews will apply a layer of chip seal on the surface of Litchfield Road from Missouri Avenue to Northern Avenue. Entry and exit will be blocked for vehicles through North and South gates for approximately one hour. South Gate will be closed to traffic turning onto and leaving the base from 10 to 11 a.m. North Gate will be closed from 11 a.m. to noon.

In the final phase of the project, crews will re-mark and paint Litchfield Road 30 days after the repaving.

The repair and resurfacing has an estimated completion date of Nov. 1.
