The 56th Fighter Wing Staff Agencies battled the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron during an intramural basketball game July 21 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center. FWSA won the game 72-69 in overtime.

At the tip-off, the game exploded with high speed and intensity on both ends of the court. The teams scored back and forth during the game, but LRS was able to take the lead with 30 seconds left on the clock before closing out the first half. FWSA failed to capitalize their opportunities in the last few seconds and the first half ended 28-27 LRS.

The FWSA team made strategic changes during halftime.

"We needed to keep it strong and keep the pace moving quickly in order to take the win," said Kyle Reaves, 56th Comptroller Squadron. "Make them take hard shots and be aggressive."

As the second half began, FWSA team worked together and was able to stay within a single digit deficit, bringing the score to 46-45 with 5:17 to go.

LRS wasn't going down without a fight as they took back the lead, bringing the score to 60-57 with four seconds to go. It seemed LRS was going to take the win, but with the help of Amani Glenn, FWSA team member, draining a three to tie the game and take it to overtime, there was hope for FWSA.

During overtime, FWSA was down to four players due to injuries. Even with LRS having the upper hand of five healthy players on their team, they were unable to take a significant lead. It was close the whole game with teams matching points. But with 19 seconds on the clock, FWSA was able to take the lead with a score of 72-69. LRS tried to make a game-tying three, but was unable to execute and FWSA won the game.

"Our goal is to win," Glenn said. "If we keep the momentum up from this game, we'll be focused and ready to go for our next game."
