The 56th Civil Engineer Squadron team faced off against the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron team in an intramural basketball game Aug. 7 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center. CES defeated LRS in a close game 55-49.

As the basketball was thrown into the air for the tip off, the game took off with high speed and intensity on both ends of the court. The 56th CES team took a three-point lead three minutes into the game, but was unable to extend their lead during the first half. Each team pushed the ball up court as much as possible, but neither side could take control of the game as the first half ended with the game tied at 39.

"The first half was very competitive," said Gary Lilley, 56th CES.

The CES team made strategic changes during halftime.

CES went into the second half ramping up their defensive strategy and using teamwork to cover their opponents.

"The fouls seemed to be going in their favor," said Benjamin Norwood, 56th LRS, during a timeout in the second half.

The LRS team relied on turning defense into offense during the second half.

The teams continued to fight back-and-forth until the final three minutes when CES began building a small lead.

As the game came down to the final minutes, CES's defense proved too strong and kept LRS from putting enough points on the board to win.
