CGOC, commissioning opportunities to be had

LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- A question often asked of company grade officers is "What was the path you took to receive your commission, and what did that commissioning source entail?"

Some are parents with children interested in pursuing a commission in the Air Force, others ask on behalf of friends and others are interested in applying. Whatever the reason, there are resources at Luke Air Force Base and on the Internet that can answer the questions.

Some helpful online information sources include the Officer Training School website, www.afoats.af.mil/OTS, U.S. Air Force Academy Web page, www.academyadmissions.com, and ROTC Web page www.au.af.mil/au/holmcenter/AFROTC/index.asp.

Another first-hand outlet for such questions many do not know about is the recently established partnership between the Luke AFB Education Center and Company Grade Officer Council. Every month, the education center conducts commissioning briefings to give background on the commissioning sources and their respective admission processes. These briefings are held in the education center in Bldg. 1150 on the 3rd floor.

Below is a listing of the commissioning briefs scheduled for the coming months. They are also posted on a monthly basis in this publication.

Commissioning briefings will be 8 a.m. Oct. 18 and Feb. 21, 2013; 2 p.m. Nov. 15, Dec. 13 and Jan. 17, 2013.

These briefings are open to anyone interested to learning about Officer Training School, ROTC and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The CGOC strives to have CGOs at these briefings to answer questions and briefly speak to each of the commissioning sources.

For those not able to attend a commissioning briefing and would like more information, email Todd.Zielinski@luke.af.mil. Each person will be matched to a CGO who has experience
