Luke water safe by EPA standards Published June 28, 2013 By 56th Aerospace Medicine Squadron Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight LUKE AIR FORCE BASE -- The drinking water at Luke Air Force Base is deemed safe by Environmental Protection Agency standards, according to a report released this month by the 56th Aerospace Medicine Squadron Bioenvironmental Engineer Flight. The study, an annual Consumer Confidence Report on drinking water quality, is available on the Luke AFB website. The report describes the presence of contaminants that may be in the drinking water, as well as any associated health risks, although the presence of contaminations doesn't necessarily indicate that water poses an immediate health risk. There are more than 80 contaminants regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act. Most of these contaminants are not found in drinking water here. Bioenvironmental personnel routinely monitor drinking water for microbial, organic and inorganic chemical contaminants, pesticides and herbicides, and radioactive contaminants at the frequencies required by federal and state law. The results are outlined in the full report. If a situation arises where the water is no longer safe to drink, a notification will be released within 24 hours.
