Viking challenge back for third time

The Logistics Officers Association Viking Challenge is a 10-hour, 10-person team, one-mile continuous relay marathon held annually as a fundraiser benefiting the LOA Enlisted Scholarship Fund on Luke Air Force Base. This is the third annual event here at Luke, and last year's event raised $7,500 in scholarship money given to local Airmen. The goal is to increase the number and value of scholarships available.

Q. When is the event and how much does it cost to participate?
A. The challenge is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 5 at the Luke Air Force Base track. The entry fee is $100 per 10-member team with the proceeds going to the scholarship fund.

Q. What is the Logistics Officers Association, and what do they do as an organization?
A. LOA is comprised of more than 3,200 military officers and civilians in logistics fields around the globe. The purpose of the LOA is to enhance the military logistics profession. LOA provides an open forum to promote quality logistical support and logistics officer professional development.

Q. How do people get signed up for the event, and when is the entry fee due?
A. The best way for teams to sign up is to email shane.schuelke@luke.af.mil or call (623) 856-9941 and a registration form will be sent out. The fee is due when the form is turned in. Forms must be turned in no later than March 29.

Q. How can people get involved even if they don't want to run?
A. Volunteers are needed to ensure a successful event. For those interested in volunteering, or for more information, call the number above.

Q. Are there other events going on throughout the run? (i.e. costume contest, live music, etc.)
A. Numerous activities are planned including lawn games, volleyball, music with a DJ, post-run pizza and more.

Q. What do members get for participating?
A. Goodie bags and T-shirts will be handed out. There will also be prizes for the team with the most mileage and the most money raised.
