National Singapore Day Published Aug. 12, 2011 By Airman 1st Class David Owsianka 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The 425th Fighter Squadron celebrated Singapore's 46th National Day Aug. 5 at Luke Air Force Base Club Five Six. The National Day of Singapore is celebrated every year in August in commemoration of Singapore's independence from Malaysia in 1965. During the event, members celebrated with traditional food, which is a big part of Singapore life. The music consisted of the Singapore national anthem along with other cultural songs and games. The 425th FS celebrated the event as closely as possible to the national day in Singapore. Lt. Col. Michael Dean, 425th FS commander, who traveled to Singapore last year, described the city-state celebration as our 4th of July multiplied by a million. "The ongoing celebration culminating with a parade was amazing," he said. "I'm amazed at the months of planning that go into this event each year. I'm proud to be a part of this squadron. The reality is that we are a big family."
