Airmen receive UCI training Published May 20, 2011 By Airman 1st Class David Owsianka 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The base records management office recently trained nine Airmen in preparation for the upcoming unit compliance inspection. The training took place in the new 56th Communications Squadron training room designed to train functional area records managers. In about two months, Tech. Sgt. Churie Shields, 56th CS assistant base records manager, coordinated with various organizations on base to obtain the required equipment and resources to set up the base records management training classroom, where records professionals receive hands-on training. All newly appointed FARM and record custodians have to attend the initial records management training course within 90 days of appointment, according to Sergeant Shields. During the course, Luke FARMs are trained on responsibilities, as well as a variety of things including how to conduct record searches, and the importance of the Privacy Act and Freedom of Information Act. They are also briefed on the game plan for the UCI. The base records management office was relocated this past February to Bldg. 750 because Bldg. 610, where they had been housed, was demolished. BRM members moved approximately 3,000 boxes of records along with office furniture, computers, printers, projectors and other office equipment to the new training facility. The classroom will be used to conduct mandatory FARM training, records custodian initial records management training, and for various meetings and classes pertaining to the records management program. The training received is the key to success for each office in each squadron as it ensures critical information is safeguarded, maintained and filed properly, Sergeant Shields said.
