Luke members of different faith backgrounds came together May 5 to participate in the National Prayer Breakfast at Club Five Six. The tradition began in 1942 when members of the United States Senate and the House of Representatives gathered during breakfast to pray for the nation.

Military and civic communities across the country continue this tradition with local prayer breakfasts or luncheons. Each event provides the opportunity to reaffirm the moral and spiritual values upon which our nation was founded.

"This is a time when people of all faith backgrounds can come together and celebrate the aspects of prayer and faith," said Maj. Ted Wilson, 56th Fighter Wing chaplain. "This country allows for free exercise of religion and gives everyone the opportunity to celebrate prayer and faith during the National Prayer Breakfast."

This year's theme was how one selfless act can change everything. Chaplain Col. Bobby Page, Air Education and Training Command Headquarters command chaplain, was guest speaker.

"I want everyone to think of someone who came into your life at a dark time and made a difference," Chaplain Page said. "Today I would like you to look up and give God praise and say, 'Thank you Lord, for bringing that person into my life at that critical moment.'"
