Base readies for 2011 Luke Days Open House Published Feb. 11, 2011 By Airman David Owsianka 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The 56th Fighter Wing presents 70 Years of Thunder Luke Days Open House and Air show March 19 and 20. Luke Air Force Base opens its gates at 9 a.m. and flying begins at 11 a.m. both days. Food and drinks will be available for purchase and cooler stations with free water will be located throughout the show area. Prohibited items for the open house are outside food; weapons of any kind, such as pocket knives, pocket tools, scissors, box cutters, billy clubs, large heavy chain-link jewelry or belts, mace and pepper spray; firearms of any type; toys that resemble firearms; fireworks; spray paint and silly string; glass containers of any kind; lawn chairs; alcohol; illegal drugs; bicycles, skateboards, heelies, roller skates or rollerblades; coolers; ruck sacks and backpacks. Permitted items for the open house are strollers and wagons for toddlers; diaper bags; women's purses; handicapped items, such as wheelchairs; cameras and video recorders; binoculars; and official service dogs. All purses and other allowable bags will be searched prior to entry. Recommended items to bring are sunscreen and hearing protection. Be advised traffic will be heavy in the areas surrounding Luke Air Force Base both days. There will be limited access between Camelback Road and Olive Avenue and between Reems Road and Arizona state Route 101. Privately managed parking at nearby off-base areas and transportation to the show will be available to the general public for a fee. On-base parking will be available only to handicapped individuals and parking pass holders. Additional traffic patterns and off-base parking locations will be provided at a later time. Those with a state-provided handicapped decal, should proceed to the North Gate on Litchfield Road for entry. Demonstrations will be performed by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, Border Protection demo, Golden Knights, Red Bull Aviation, Geico, Redo Eagle Air Sports, Younkin Air, ACC Heritage and Acemaker.
