Family camp out ignites interest Published May 1, 2009 By Senior Airman Tong Duong Thunderbolt staff writer LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The idea of sitting by the campfire listening to stories and sleeping under the stars drew 149 Luke Air Force Base Airmen and their families to the semi-annual Family Camp Out at Fowler Park April 24. The third such camp out attracted one person shy of the 150-person limit. The event was considered a success by Samuel Harvey, 56th Force Support Squadron Outdoor Recreation member. "The family event was very successful," he said. "Everyone said they enjoyed it and some even wanted us to host one once a month. Events such as this are the reason Luke has won the Air Education Training Command's services 5 Star Award five years in a row since 2004." Participants enjoyed a free dinner and breakfast, while youth played in the bouncy castle, watched movies, made s' mores and heard campfire stories. The next Family Camp Out is mid October.
