The joint 56th Mission Support Squadron and 56th Services Squadron team bested the 56th Civil Engineer Squadron 19-7 during an intramural softball game Feb. 12 at the base softball field.

"I thought this would be a great game," said Kevin Bruaw, 56th SVS fitness center sports director. "Both are really good teams and I was looking forward to the game. Even though not all of CE's team was able to be there, it was still a good game. CE did their best right to the end."

The game began with Marvin Cruz up to bat for MSS. Cruz hit a rolling grounder past the CE third baseman and ran to first. Batting next for MSS, Sean O'Hagan, hit the ball into the glove of the CE second baseman getting Cruz out. The next batter hit a fly into the outfield and ran to third, also allowing O'Hagan to score the first run of the game.
By the time MSS received their third out they had scored four runs.

Determined not to be left behind, CE went to bat. Their first batter hit a long fly that sailed to the back fence giving him time to reach home. CE's next batter, Joseph Rivera, hit a hard ball right over the fence scoring the first out-of-the-park home run. By the end of the inning CE tied MSS 4-4.

The second inning began the MSS scoring streak as they put five runs on the board with the first seven batters, while CE was only able to manage one run.

MSS continued scoring run after run making CE work harder to get them out. In the end it paid off, but MSS got away with a 10-run third inning. CE, now fighting to keep the game from ending, sent in their next batter.

Steven Kinkade let the first ball drop at his feet. Ball one. The next pitch came right over the plate with Kinkade not taking the swing. Strike one. Kinkade stood watching the pitcher, and then it came. Kinkade swung the bat and knocked the ball far out into the centerfield scoring yet another home run for CE.

Batting next was Justin Tabor, who hit a grounder past shortstop, and into left field. He ran to first, and with a missed throw by MSS, continued to second.

Next to bat was Jason Breman who hit a triple past the right outfielder bringing Tabor home. The next three CE batters got out ending the inning and the game.

"I thought we played well," said Steve Kinkade, CE assistant coach. "If we'd had all our players, the game would have been much closer. We look forward to the championship and hope to play MSS again with all our players."
