The 56th Services Squadron Fitness Center held its second Ultimate Frisbee championship at the base track football field Feb. 2 through 4.

The 56th Communications Squadron went disc to disc with against undefeated 56th Component Maintenance Squadron in the championship game Feb 4.

Having played one other game that night, CS was warmed up and ready when the game start whistle blew. CS took advantage of their long pass game and scored the first goal made by Nelson Avilesfigueroa.

CS threw the Frisbee to CMS after their goal. They received it and began making short passes to gain ground against the CS defense. But the defense stopped the CMS passes and turned over the play to throw a long pass back to Avilesfigueroa in the end-zone, scoring another goal for CS.

CMS again received the Frisbee from CS and with a few short passes made it within yards of the goal only to be blocked by the CS defense. CMS quickly turned over the Frisbee again and with a long floating pass scored their first goal.

Both teams continued to play fast and hard and in the first 10 minutes CS scored five points and CMS two. As the first half ended, James Goodman, CS, ran 10 yards down the field for another point. At the half the score stood 6-2.

The second half was played as fast and quick as the first with the CS defense holding against CMS and continuing to score points. With this tactic CS ended the first game 10-5.
The teams now stood at a tie, both having lost one game.

The tie breaker game began with a weakening CS having just played two games with few substitutions. CMS took advantage of their subs and the tired CS team to score quickly with a short-pass game. CMS dominated both halves winning the game and championship 17-8.

"The winter Ultimate Frisbee Tournament went very well," said Kevin Bruaw 56th SVS sports director. "The competition was fast-paced and intense. Both CMS and CS gave outstanding efforts in the championship games. CS really pulled together as a team to win back-to-back games forcing a tie breaker against CMS. I think the fatigue of three games got to CS, but they did not go down without a fight."
