ACS wins 49-45 against SFS Published Dec. 11, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Phillip Butterfield 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The 607th Air Control Squadron arrested the 56th Security Forces squadron, winning 49-45 during an intramural basketball game Dec. 3 in the fitness center here. This game spelled out another battle between two intramural basketball dynasties. The game began with SFS's Derek Geske draining the three-point jumper to put the first marks on the score board. SFS struck at the heart of the ACS's defense with two more three- point bombs, one from Geske and another from David Cresap, setting a tone that appeared to be unrecoverable for ACS. The rest of the half turned into a dirt slinging competition with the majority of the points coming from foul shots. The half ended with SFS turning on the blue and reds and taking the lead 28-20. The second half started with both teams raining in threes, as if barred from entering the paint. With the game tied 45-45 and winding to a close, ACS took a time out to engineer a final plan. "This was one of our best team-playing games," said Connie Ali, 56th SFS coach. "But we could have worked on our defense and our follow-through." Out of the break, SFS attempted to loosen the deadlock on multiple occasions, inadvertently throwing the game away with fouls, stepping out of bounds and failed attempts helping ACS clinch the win. "In the beginning we had a few problems with getting organized," said Jimmy Philips, 607th ACS head coach. "In the second half we regrouped and got the victory."
