Base Exchange reopens in style Published Oct. 30, 2008 By Master Sgt. Stephen Delgado 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Halloween 2008 is an historical day for the Luke Air Force Base Exchange. There will be no tricks, but a lot of treats. A seven-month renovation is completed and the grand re-opening of the base exchange will get under way at 7:45 a.m., with the ribbon cutting scheduled for 8 a.m., according to Robert Carter, base exchange general manager. "The new version of the base exchange will feature an increase of 17,000 square feet, expanding the total square footage to nearly 97,000," he said. "We added a coat shop and expanded the outdoor living, patio furniture, hardware and home furnishing areas. The ceiling was raised from 10 feet to 12 feet throughout the store, and the lighting has been improved. We also installed new carpet and tile throughout the store." What's more, there will be an opportunity to win some incredible prizes such as a 52-inch flat-screen television and a washer and dryer, Mr. Carter said. "If a person doesn't win one of the big prizes, there will be drawings throughout the weekend for numerous door prizes," he said. "There will be vendors handing out samples of their products." There will be entertainment for all age groups including an appearance by the Incredible Hulk. Racing fans will have an opportunity to view a NASCAR vehicle. The mall area will be new and improved, with the addition of three new concessions, including Starbucks Coffee moving from its present location. The new Starbucks will be a full-service facility and is scheduled to open in December. With the holidays around the corner, there will added hours and special sales to accommodate customer's needs, Mr. Carter said.
