The 56th Civil Engineer Squadron stomped the joint 56th Mission Support Squadron and 56th Services Squadron 42-0 Oct. 9 during the Luke Air Force Base intramural flag football championship.

The CES team was ranked number one throughout the tournament, winning every game, while the underdog, MSS-SVS team was never expected to make it as far as it did.

To get to the championship, the MSS-SVS team won two games back-to-back against two of the top teams in the tournament -- Detachment 12, 372nd Training Squadron and the Component Maintenance Squadron.

As the championship game began, MSS-SVS started quickly to gain yards since their players were already warmed up from the two previous games. But CES rallied, slowing the MSS-SVS initiative. Their offense met a defensive wall built by the engineers.

CES regained possession of the ball and quickly took it down the field to score. After the turnover, MSS-SVS managed to find cracks in the CES defensive wall and gained yards.
But as MSS-SVS approached the 10-yard line, the ball was intercepted by an engineer and rushed down the field, scoring another touchdown for CES.

MSS-SVS regained possession of the ball, and again tried to find openings in the CES defense with little success. After a blitz and a fumble, the engineers gained the ball at the MSS-SVS 30-yard line and used short, quick passes to regain the yards initially gained by their opponents. The engineers scored again, ending the half 21-0.

As the second half began, CES quickly took advantage of a worn-out MSS-SVS defense and squashed them like grapes.

Each time MSS-SVS regained the ball, the effects of their three-game run began to show with incomplete passes, fumbles and interceptions. The game continued on with MSS-SVS unable to score as the engineers racked up the points.

The engineers shook hands with the MSS-SVS team and remained humble despite a huge, one-sided victory. The final score was 42-0.
