Luke Airman shines at Air Force level Published April 18, 2008 By Deborah Marie Gibson 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- The Air Force announced April 1 the 2007 Air Force Logistics Readiness award winners and Senior Airman Mary Jones, 756th Aircraft Maintenance Unit supply, garnered the AF Materiel Management Airman of the Year. The award will be presented to her May 8 at a banquet at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington D.C. She earned the award for providing outstanding supply support to maintain the 51st Fighter Wing's F-16s and A-10s at Osan Air Base, Korea. "We congratulate Airman Jones for the stellar supply support she provided while stationed at Osan," said Brig. Gen. Tom Jones, 56th Fighter Wing commander. "We are pleased she is now at Luke, helping to support our mission." According to Airman Jones, a positive attitude is key. "I just worked hard and maintained a positive attitude," she said. "My inspiration is the Women's Army Corps." During World War II, more than 150,000 women served in the WAC and were the first women other than nurses to join the Army. They paved the way by proving women are more than capable to serve in uniform. "If it wasn't for them and their struggles, I wouldn't be where I am today," Airman Jones said.
