The 56th Mission Support Squadron change of command July 26 at Club Thunderbolt was the final of several squadron changes of commands of the summer season.

Nearly 90 Thunderbolts looked on as Lt. Col. Eric Bass relinquished command to Maj. Carol Gordon.

Major Gordon was a student at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, prior to her arrival at the 56th Fighter Wing. Colonel Bass will become the Air Education and Training Command Officer and Civilian Development Branch chief at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.

"Having the opportunity to command a squadron like the 56th MSS is an honor," Major Gordon said. "The chance to work with these nova-bright Airmen is phenomenal and it is my privilege to serve with these leaders."

Major Gordon will oversee products and services that provide support to more than 6,200 active-duty and Reserve military personnel, 7,000 dependents, 1,000 civilians and 79,000 retired military personnel. She is responsible for military and civilian personnel, education, Airman and family readiness center, the career assistance advisor, and the first-term Airman's center.

"Major Gordon is a highly qualified officer who brings an excellent blend of base and staff experience to Luke," said Col. Ronald Mozzillo, 56th Mission Support Group commander. "As the Air Force looks ahead and begins to merge manpower, personnel and services into one squadron we will depend on her insight, perspective and experience to ensure a seamless transition."
