The 56th Medical Group and the 56th Civil Engineer Squadron flag football teams stepped onto the gridiron Sept. 8 during an intramural football match at Luke Air Force Base. The result had the 56th MDG defeating the 56th Civil Engineer Squadron 21-6.

The 56th Medical Group came into the game as the favorite and didn't disappoint with the 56th MDG team scoring the first touchdown and a strong defense.

"The first half started off slow for us, but it was a really exciting game for us," said Dylan Vogal, 56th Medical Operations Squadron medical technician. "We had a lot of dropped passes but after having three goal line stands our team was able to get the ball back and score."

Half time ended with a score In favor of MDG.

The rules for the intramural games are different than a traditional football game. In a flag football field range of 80 yards, each first down is 20 yards. There are only two 20 minute halves as well as the automatic mercy victory rule, which consist of having 20 or more points ahead with 10 minute to go.

During the second half of the game the 56th CES picked up their pace and began to complete more passes and drives. The 56th CES team scored for the first time with a long pass.

Even though the 56th CES players stepped up their game, the 56th MDG team utilized the run game and scored two more times before the game ended.

The final score was 21-6.

"We had a hiccup in the second half with an interception, but we ran our offense effectively and controlled the clock," said Benjamin Aldridge, 56th Medical Operation Squadron thunderbolt element NCO in charge. "Our plan was to keep the opposing team in front of us and stay in the back field to avoid long drives. We perfectly ran our game plan."
