Drinking Water 101 Published April 9, 2015 Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, AZ -- Luke AFB 2014 annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) on drinking water quality was released 12 March 15 by the 56th Aerospace Medical Squadron, Bioenvironmental Engineering (BE). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires this report be available to the consuming public. The CCR describes the presence of the contaminants that may be in the drinking water and any health risks. There are currently over 80 contaminants regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act. Most of these contaminants are not found in the Luke AFB potable water. BE routinely monitors for microbial, organic and inorganic chemical contaminants, pesticides and herbicides, and radioactive contaminants at the frequencies required by Federal and State law. These monitoring results are outlined in the full report. The report identifies any violations the system has received in the past year and details health effects information associated with the detected contaminants. Luke AFB did not have any violations for 2014. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses an immediate health risk. If a situation arises where the water is no longer safe to drink, a notification will be released to the base populace. Other instances of non-compliance such as missed monitoring and positive bacteriological results will be promptly reported in the Thunderbolt. The full CCR can be found at the base library, Bioenvironmental Engineering office (bldg 810), Luke Home Page, and Belfour Beatty Community Center. For any questions regarding the CCR, please contact Bioenvironmental Engineering at (623) 856-7521.
