The 56th Medical Group took the lead on their first serve of the new intramural volleyball season Oct. 14, driving them to an early season win over the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center. The final score was 2-1.

From the beginning, it was constant volleying back and forth between LRS and MDG. LRS would gain the lead only to have MDG take it back. By the end of the first match MDG had gained enough momentum to win the match. Going into the second match, MDG came in strong but LRS Airmen made several good plays and a few spikes to come out on top at the end of the second match.

"It was going really well in the second match," said Samantha Yolangco, LRS team captain. "The biggest challenge we faced was playing with people we hadn't played with before. There was a lack of communication between players."

Going into the third match, LRS came back, putting up good defense and gaining a six-point lead over MDG.

"We tried to get a good rotation going," Yolangco said. "We tried to give the more experienced people more game time, but as in the previous matches, it was difficult to communicate and we didn't know each other's strengths and weaknesses."

Led by a solid defense, MDG made a comeback and turned it around.

"We did well overall," said Jason Brennan, 56th LRS. "We will make a comeback when our team is comprised of people we've played with before because it will be easier to rely on each other knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses."
