The 56th Medical Group battled the 56th Fighter Wing Staff Agencies during an elimination intramural basketball playoff game Aug. 4 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center Gym. MDG won 42-30, moving the team to the next round.

The game began with high speed and intensity on both ends of the court. FWSA began the game with a 6-0 run, but that did not stop MDG from giving it all they had. The first half was evenly matched, making it a nail-biter with the score at 21-21.

The MDG team was on a mission to win this game.

"We're a halftime team," said Kyle Smith, 56th MDG teammate. "We regrouped and were 100 percent focused. The momentum is on our side when we play hard."

As the second half began, MDG got on a roll and worked as a team to take the lead with 18 minutes to go. FWSA wasn't going down without a fight as they kept the score to a single-digit lead with 10 minutes left in the second half. MDG denied FWSA's comeback by going on a 10-0 run to bring the score to 37-29 with four minutes left. FWSA gave all they had, but it wasn't enough as MDG won the game and moved to the next round in the playoffs.

"We wanted to dominate them on both ends of the court," said Jordan Ashlock, 56th MDG teammate. "Defense wins games. If we focus more on our defense, we will win this tournament."
