June 23 marked the beginning of the summer 2014 Intramural Basketball Season at Luke Air Force Base and features the East and West regions with 11 teams representing each region.

The 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Aerospace Ground Equipment squared off with the 56th Civil Engineer Squadron in the first match of the evening. CES won the game 42-26.

The second game of the night was between 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron and the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron with LRS winning the game 60-30.

"The game went well," said Kent Friley, 56th LRS superintendent customer support. "EMS gave us a good challenge. There was no pivotal moment about last night, we just got off to a great start. We went up by 10 points in the first three minutes of the game."

The third and final game was between members of the 56th Fighter Wing Staff Agency and the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. The game was very competitive and for most of the players, it was their first time playing with new Airmen. It was a close scoring game but AAFES came out on top winning 70-57.

"For the first time playing together, we did a good job, and we will get better from here on out," said Corey Shires, 56th Comptroller Squadron MilPay technician. "I felt like we were 'The Replacements' with Keanu Reeves; we are still working at piecing everything together." The intramural basketball season runs until July 28 and all games take place at the Bryant Fitness Center. The first game of the night begins at 6 p.m. with the gym hosting three games a night with free attendance.
