The 56th Communications Squadron softball team defeated the 56th Fighter Wing Staff Agencies team 15-1 during an intramural softball game May 6 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center softball field.

The FWSA opened the game by scoring a run in the first inning. COMM rallied back to score three runs, bringing the score to 3-1 at the end of the second inning. It seemed as though the game would be a close one, but COMM played like a team on a mission to win and sent a message to anyone standing in their way.

The third inning was weak for both teams. FWSA failed to make any runs, while COMM batters kept missing opportunities to score. The fourth inning proved to be a game changer for COMM. COMM dominated the fourth inning by going on a 12-0 run to bring the score to 15-1. With no chance of the FWSA coming back, the referee ended the game using the mercy rule.

"The game plan was for us to warm up prior to the game and just have fun," said Steve Radnor, 56th COMM first sergeant. "Based on our practices, our hitting was stupendous, and we were spot-on every time at bat."

The COMM softball team hopes to keep the momentum going the next game they play. "We came off a tough loss last night, but we came out and did what we had to do to win this game," said Robert Smoot, 56th COMM airfield systems supervisor. "For the next game, we're going to stick with the fundamentals and make good plays. Hopefully we can get the motivation we need to continue winning games throughout the season."
