LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --
An Air Force-wide basic allowance for housing recertification for Airmen currently receiving a dependent rate BAH began March 1 and is scheduled to be completed by December.
BAH is provided to help offset living expenses for Air Force personnel.
Every Airman stationed at Luke Air force Base, including active-duty, Guard and Reserve receiving dependent rate BAH is required to provide the supporting documents to justify the entitlement along with a 'wet-signed' AF form 594.
"We want to make sure that everyone's entitlement is correctly being paid out," said 2nd Lt. William Liaw, 56th Comptroller Squadron financial services officer. "With budget tightening going on, the Air Force needs to make sure all Air Force-wide funds are accounted for."
Luke members will be notified the month they must recertify their BAH based on the last two digits of their social security number. Those affected will be notified via email, and are advised to be conscious of email from finance.
"For example, if your social security number ends in numbers between 21 and 30, you were required to revalidate in April," Liaw said. "We'll give you thirty days from the time you get the email to recertify your BAH."
Unless the member is deployed or on a temporary duty assignment, if there is no response, the individual's BAH rate will change from the dependent rate to the single rate.
Luke Airmen do not have to wait for email notification in order to complete the recertification. They are authorized to bring in the necessary documents prior to notification. In order for Airmen to recertify their BAH, they need to bring a marriage certificate, birth certificate and dependency determination paperwork.
