LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --
The 56th Security Forces Squadron softball team defeated the 56th Operations Support Squadron 17-6 April 21 during a one-pitch intramural softball game at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center softball field.
For those who don't know, a one-pitch softball game is where the batter only gets one chance to hit the ball. Failure to do so results in an out.
SFS was the first to bat and scored three runs. During the bottom of the first inning, OSS battled back with four of their own taking a 403 lead.
In the second inning both teams were tied 4-4.
The game took a significant turn during the third inning. SFS picked up three runs while OSS had a difficult time picking up hits.
SFS extended its lead during the last stretch of the game when they added four runs, including one home run with two runs-batted-in bringing the final score to 17-6.
"Our biggest thing was getting back out here and swinging again and getting our hits in before the regular season starts next week," said retired Master Sgt. Randy Felciano. "It's good to see all these young Airmen participate, and I thought our score was pretty good being that it is a one-pitch tournament."
Although they didn't win, the 56th OSS is glad to have gotten some game time in too.
"I'm not worried about our score since it's still early in the season and just getting people out here is good," said Senior Master Sgt. Scott Harris, 56th Operations Group first sergeant. "Next time we will score more runs and get more people out to play for the team."
