Last year, the 56th Force Support Squadron defeated the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron to become the 2013 intramural basketball champs. This time around, both teams met up again to prove once and for all who the best is.

LRS finished the regular season undefeated going into the game.

The basketball was thrown into the air for tip-off, and the game began with high speed and intensity on both ends of the court. Both teams were scoring back and forth during the game, but FSS was able to take the lead with 30 seconds left on the clock during the first half. LRS had an opportunity to tie the game, but was unable to as FSS finished the first half up 24-21.

The LRS team made strategic changes during halftime.

"Our goal was to go back to the basics," said Rodolfo Perez, LRS team member. "Fundamental basketball was the key for us to win this championship and bring the trophy back to LRS."

As the second half began, LRS worked on their offense and was able to tie the game, bringing the score to 24-24 with 13 minutes to go. FSS was able to keep the score close for most of the game, but their lack of communication, plus no replacement of players, made them lose their close margin with six minutes to go in the second half. FSS fought with everything they had, but they could not pull off the comeback. LRS defeated FSS 50-41, bringing the intramural basketball championship trophy back to LRS after it was taken away by FSS.

"We came, we played and we won the championship," said Kent Friley, LRS team member. "I want to thank the gym support staff for making this a great season. We're glad to have the trophy back home at LRS."
