SFS dominates ACS in championship game

LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --  The 56th Security Forces Squadron softball team defeated the 607th Air Control Squadron 26-2 during the intramural softball championship Nov. 6 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center softball field.

SFS opened the game by scoring four runs in the first inning. The 607th ACS added a home run during the second inning bringing the score to 4-1.

The third inning was weak for both teams. SFS tried to steal bases and failed repeatedly while 607th ACS failed to make any runs. The fourth inning proved to be a game changer for SFS.

SFS dominated the inning by going on a 22-0 run to bring the score to 26-1. Although scoring one more run, the 607th was defenseless at this point, and the referee called the game, implementing the mercy rule. The win went to SFS with a final score 26-2.

"We just knew that as long as we played the way we were playing the whole season and made contact with the ball, we would be victorious," said Jonathan Warzeka, 56th SFS Logistics Flight officer in charge. "And that's what happened tonight."

This is 56th SFS' second championship, and they are looking to become champions again next season.

"We just waited on the other team to make errors then used them to our advantage," said Dustin Barnes, 56th SFS Military Working Dog handler. "If we play like we played today next season, we will be champions again."
