CE takes on SFS for bragging rights

LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --  The 56th Civil Engineer Squadron battled the 56th Security Forces Squadron for bragging rights during an intramural basketball game Aug. 26 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center Gym. CE won the game 41-40, bringing their record to 7-3.

CE began the game with a record of 6-3 and SFS with a record of 3-7. CE is currently in third place in the west division while SFS is in fifth place.

The game began with a 4-0 SFS run. CES couldn't find a rhythm and got in foul trouble, which gave SFS the advantage to lead at the half by a score of 20-14.

SFS maintained the lead during the second half and led 24-17 with 16 minutes to go.

As the second half went on, CE got back in the game with six unanswered points, bringing the score to 27-26 with 10 minutes to go. The teams scored back and forth with only a one point difference. Fouls were going against SFS, and CE took advantage of them. SFS continued to fight, however, and tied the game at 32 with 5 minutes to go.

Led by Jabari Johnson, who scored 9 points, CE was able to sustain their lead.

With 10 seconds to go, SFS had the chance to win the game with one shot, but failed on the attempt, resulting in a win for CE.

"We came back, regrouped and worked as a team to win this game," said Jare Etheridge, 56th CES electrician. "We'll do the same thing next game, but next time we will control the lead. No one can stop us if we're in the zone."
