The 56th Medical Group battled the 56th Force Support Squadron team for bragging rights during an intramural basketball game Aug. 15 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center gym. MDG defeated FSS 42-39, helping them extend their winning streak to five games and bringing their record to 6-1.

FSS is now 4-3. Both teams are currently in second place of their divisions.

The game began with MDG commanding a strong 8-0 lead. FSS tried to fight back and take control of the game but failed as the clock wound down on the first half. The first half ended with MDG in the lead 25-14.

MDG continued to lead during the second half with the score 27-14 and 17 minutes to go.

But FSS wasn't going down without a fight and scored five unanswered points. FSS continued to struggle making buckets down low, which allowed MDG to maintain a 36-26 lead with 8:43 left on the clock.

Led by Guy McAdams, who scored 12 points, MDG sustained their lead despite FSS's efforts to put up more baskets in the second half.

FSS fought back and brought the score to 42-36 with 55 seconds to go. FSS took the opportunity to close the gap 42-39 with 30 seconds left.

Despite nearly letting their lead slip away, MDG held onto the ball and ran out the clock.

"We just tried to play smart and it worked in our favor," said Terrance Thomas, 56th MDG. "We made smart passes and took good shots to leave with the win. Next game will be the same formula but higher intensity."
