Thunderbolt with two titles: Marine and Airman
Staff Sgt. Ryan Allen, (middle), stands at attention during his reenlistment ceremony in 2011, at the Belleau Wood Memorial, France. Allen chose to reenlist at this significant place because it’s where the battle of Belleau Wood was, which is widely known as the battle in which Marines were given the title Tuefel Hunden (Devil Dog) by German soldiers due to their relentless assaults in one of the first major U.S. battles of World War I, preventing the crossing of the Marne Rive by German forces, 59 miles away from a near certain Paris occupation.
