Developmental Advisor:

The Development Advisor (DA) provides career counseling for all members of Luke AFB, with specialized knowledge in retraining and various force management programs. The DA serves as the gateway for Thunderbolts professional development needs. Mandatory development courses are offered on a scheduled basis, with the availability of informal offerings hosted at various points throughout the year. Mandatory courses include Informed Decision Seminar (IDS), First Term Enlisted Course (FTEC), Junior Enlisted Foundations (JEFC 300), NCO Foundations (NCOFC 500), and SNCO Foundations (SNCOFC 700).

 

First Term Enlisted Course (FTEC):

Course Length: 10 Days

Who: First term enlisted members; attendance mandatory within 45 days of arrival to first duty station.

Description: The First-Term Enlisted Course (FTEC) is a ten-day course which provides informative briefings and training for newly assigned first-term enlisted members. Military professionalism, Enlisted Force Structure, resiliency, and financial management are some of the topics addressed during FTEC as well as having new Airmen receive there necessary MRA/RAT training with the Forged56 program. Airmen are required to attend all 10 scheduled days and will NOT be able to attend personal appointments during this time.

 

First Term Officer's Course (FTOC):

Length of Course: 4 days

Who: CGOs on their first duty assignment

Description: Develop CGO leadership competencies and mission capabilities by providing a learning experience that develops job skills and broadens their knowledge and understanding of the structure and role of the total force. They will also learn their role and expectations within this dynamic.

 

Informed Decision Brief:

Length of Course: 1 hr and 30 mins

Who: This seminar per AFI 36-2670, Total Force Development, is mandatory for first term and second-term enlistees within 12-15 months of their date of separation.

Description: This brief is an educational experience specifically designed to enhance one’s knowledge of Air Force benefits, highlighted program requirements, and processes. The goal is to ensure personnel obtain the needed information to make the best decision for them, their family, and their subordinates as they come close to the end of their enlistment.

 

Retraining Brief:

Length of Course: 1 hr

Who: SrA – TSgt

Description: Interested in retraining? Quotas change daily, eligibility varies by enlistment, and recent policy updates may impact your options. To ensure Airmen get accurate, up-to-date guidance on requirements, timelines, and how to identify open AFSCs, we host a dedicated Retraining Briefing that walks you through everything you need to know. All Airmen considering retraining are highly encouraged to attend this briefing before starting the application process.

 

Junior Enlisted Foundations Course (JEFC 300):

Course Length: 5 Days

Who: SrA

Description: The Junior Enlisted Foundations Course 300 bridges the gap between tech school and Airman Leadership School (ALS) and will be a prerequisite for ALS beginning 01 January 2026. The course provides students with the foundational skills and knowledge needed to conform to standards, customs and courtesies, and offers guidance to help enhance the students’ focus on becoming highly efficient career field and 5-skill level agents. The JEFC 300 empowers Airman to reflect on their behaviors in relation to the Airmen Leadership Qualities. It facilitates the journey to developing supervisory and leadership skills, developing the competency of leading individuals and teams, and understanding the guardrails and guidelines of supervision.

 

NCO Foundations Course (NCOFC 500):

Course Length: 5 Days

Who: SSgt & TSgt

Description: The NCO Foundations Course 500 will be a prerequisite for the Noncommissioned Officer Academy (NCOA) beginning 01 January 2026. The course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to lead by setting the example. It also enhances the students’ capacity to continually advance factors that shape organizational culture, offer guidance that empowers students to reflect on their behaviors in relation to the Airmen Leadership Qualities and facilitate students’ comprehension of techniques that contribute to establishing robust networks. The NCOFC 500 assist students in grasping the connection between attention to detail, establishing impactful communication and fostering a culture of trust. It promotes the realization that asking the appropriate questions involves understanding how to utilize the answers effectively.

 

SNCO Foundations Course (SNCOFC700):

Course Length: 4 Days

Who: MSgt & (S)MSgt

Description: The SNCO Foundations Course 700 replaces the base level SNCO Professional Enhancement Seminar and will be a prerequisite for the Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy beginning 01 January 2026. The course provides students with the foundational skills and knowledge needed to develop, advise and lead teams successfully, and facilitates technical expertise for transitioning from first-line supervisors and trainers to leaders of teams. The SNCOFC700 assists students in engaging in strategic leadership at the 9-skill level, offering a rich arsenal of influence tactics for changing people’s viewpoints and behaviors. It assists students in learning how to build and maintain social relationships to maximize their informal power and influence in an organization. The course goes beyond managing into a proactive stance that will take the organization forward.

 

Forged56:

Course Length: 4 Days

Who: All Ranks

Description: The Forged56 program at Luke AFB helps everyone meet their pre-deployment training in a more hands-on environment. On day one you will be learning MRA tasks such as Forklift Driving, Pallet Building and Checking Vitals. Followed by day two and three where everyone will learn skills such as Small Arms Formalization, CBRN, and Integrated base Defense. One the fourth and final day everyone will be using what they have been to work together as a tea and complete a FTX.

 

Monthly Professional Development Sessions:

Our monthly Professional Development sessions provide military and civilian personnel with focused, relevant training designed to support leadership growth, career development, and overall mission effectiveness. Each month features a different topic tailored to enhance personal skills, professional competencies, and organizational understanding, varying from leadership and communication to career planning, testing strategies, and more. These sessions are open to all Airmen, Guardians, and civilian teammates, offering practical tools, real-world insight, and opportunities to learn and connect with others across the installation. Participants are encouraged to attend regularly to continue their personal and professional growth.

Do I need my supervisor’s approval to attend a Professional Development session?

While supervisor coordination is encouraged to support mission requirements, most PD sessions do not require formal approval. Everyone should ensure attendance does not conflict with duty responsibilities.

Please email the Development Advisor directly so your registration can be removed. This allows another member to take the open slot.

How long are the PD sessions?
