While waiting in an airport often lacks the comforts of home, in the Phoenix Military and Veterans Hospitality Room in Terminal 2, at Sky Harbor International Airport, a Luke Airman sits in a cushioned recliner, flipping through channels on a big screen TV -- waiting to catch a plane that begins his journey to Afghanistan.

Thanks to the Military Veterans Affairs Commission Foundation, the staff of volunteer hosts and donations from numerous sources, veterans and their family members traveling through the Phoenix airport have a relaxing oasis that includes a game room (with a foosball table), computer work station and children's playroom. In addition, there are complimentary refreshments such as chips, soda, water and juice.

Hosts are even available to answer questions about the Phoenix area or provide assistance with car rentals and hotel accommodations.

"Today's travel can be frustrating considering travel delays and connecting flights," said Larry Loebach, Air Force veteran and PMVHR volunteer host. "The PMVHR is a place that not only eases travel stress, it's a way to thank all military veterans for their sacrifices."
