The 56th Fighter Wing Community Initiatives Team will be honored Wednesday by the Maricopa Association of Government as the recipient of the 2006 Desert Peak Award for Public Partnership.

The Desert Peaks Awards were initiated by MAG to recognize individuals and partnerships that have demonstrated a commitment to regionalism through their cooperative efforts. By working together, local governments can solve common problems, address concerns that affect communities and produce results that strengthen both individual communities and the region. These joint efforts often lead to a better use of resources and service delivery to citizens.

The CIT was honored for their role in working with the Luke West Valley Council in improving the process of communication with local communities regarding land use compatibility with Luke operations. Their efforts help prevent further encroachment on Luke operations, allowing the base to continue to train 90 percent of the Air Force's F-16 pilots, and 50 percent of its fighter force.
