The Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team will roll through Luke Air Force Base and the surrounding community Aug. 10 and 11 to perform on- and off-base during their 2010 tour.

"One of the reasons we're coming to Luke is because some of our members are from the Phoenix area," said Tech. Sgt. Michael Doss, Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team flight chief. "Not to mention that Brig. Gen. (Kurt) Neubauer, (56th Fighter Wing commander,) and Chief (Master Sgt. Randy) Raper, 56th FW command chief, were the former leadership at Bolling Air Force Base. Needless to say, there are many positives for making our way out west."

"We're extremely excited about visiting Luke," said Lt. Col. Raymond Powell, Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team commander. "We've been preparing some routines that are the most difficult we've done in recent years and maybe across the military right now. No other service attempts the mass-overs, where every weapon is tossed in the air at the same time and caught by a different team member. And these aren't fake bayonets."

The drill team Airmen represent the best of each of the individual ceremonial flights and have all risen to the challenge and developed the discipline required to be part of this elite performance unit, according the drill team website.

"Our mission is to represent Airmen, to the American public and the world," Colonel Powell said. "When we're out there, we represent you."

The drill team will perform at 1 p.m. Aug. 10 in the 56th Force Support Squadron Youth Center and at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at Sun City Grand.
