Flag football season began March 2 here with a matchup between the 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Munitions Flight and the 56th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

Along with the other 16 teams they played for the number one spot in the first weeks games.

"This season looks to be really promising," said Kevin Bruaw, 56th Force Support Squadron Fitness Center sports director. "We have some top notch teams playing this year. I can't wait to see what happens."

The top two teams coming out of the first week are the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron and 56th Civil Engineer Squadron, who both won their first two games.

CES was last season's winner and is looking for a second championship.

"The team to beat would be the defending champ, CES," Mr. Bruaw said. "They went undefeated last year and are on a roll to start this season."

LRS also began the season well winning their first two games and tying CES for the top spot.

"LRS could try to push for the championship as well," said Mr. Bruaw. "Both teams have excellent plays and outstanding team work."

Other teams to keep track of this season include the 56th Operations Group, 56th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and the 56th Force Support Squadron who have also started out winning by large margins according to Mr. Bruaw.

Though CES faces many tough competitors they are thinking positively.

"We are hoping to have a repeat of our championship season from last year," said Richard Janzer, 56th CES coach. "A lot of our players from last year are still with us and we have that work-as-a-team mentality."
