The 56th Security Forces Squadron came ready to strike down the 756th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron during the Luke Air Force Base Fitness Center intramural softball championship Feb. 25; and strike down they did.

SFS claimed the championship 15-0. The SFS lost two games this season, which put them in third place coming into the tournament, while 756th AMXS entered the tournament in fourth.

"This should have been a good close game," said Kevin Bruaw 56th Force Support Squadron sports director. "SFS has a good offence and AMXS has a good defense."

SFS began the first inning hitting four runs while AMXS first three batters struck out ending the inning.

When AMXS returned to defense they stepped it up. The first two SFS batters were unable to make it to first. The third batter hit a double just out of the center fielder's glove.

The fourth batter hit a fly into the shortstop's glove ending the inning for SFS.

With the AMXS back at bat, their first two batters hit fly balls only to be caught by the outfielders. The third hit a grounder down the third base line making it to first base. The fourth was struck out.

"The third inning was security force's strong point," said Mr. Bruaw. "Security forces batted through their lineup and got three home runs."

Derek Geske, SFS, was first to bat and hit a single. The next SFS batter hit a home run bringing him and Geske home. This started the scoring streak for SFS.

After eight more runs Geske was up to bat again and hit a pop fly ball into the outfield only to be caught by the AMXS outfielder, ending the SFS streak.

In the final inning AMXS was still scoreless but came close with a runner on third. In the end AMXS was defeated.

"A few routine fly balls dropped by AMXS in the outfield helped security forces gain ground in the third inning," Mr. Bruaw said. "The whole softball season was great -- it was unpredictable. I expect the next season to be just as great."
