Two Luke Air Force Base Airmen were instrumental in rescue efforts after four local youth found themselves in an overturned truck in a wash near the Phoenix International Raceway Thursday.

According to Phoenix-area media reports, storms flooded the area near Indian Springs and El Mirage roads earlier in the day, and the 17-year-old drove his siblings, ages 14, 4 and 2, to see the water when trouble struck around 5:30 p.m.

Working in their off-duty time at the Phoenix International Raceway, Air Force Tech. Sgt. James Orsund and Staff Sgt. Christopher Anderson, both ammunitions specialists at the base, witnessed the truck overturned with the siblings trapped inside, and immediately provided assistance.

The Luke Air Force Base Public Affairs Office is providing a media opportunity to interview the two sergeants today at noon at the base. Public Affairs officers will be at the South Gate to greet media at 11:45 a.m.

Interested media should call the 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office at (623) 856-6011 as soon as possible.
