Phoenix military and veterans hospitality room now open Published May 22, 2007 By Deborah Marie Gibson 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs LUKE AIR FOCE BASE, Ariz. -- Sky Harbor Airport now has a place for traveling veterans to relax. Last October, the volunteer hosts at the Phoenix Military and Veterans Hospitality Room greeted their first guest. Since its opening, the hospitality room, located in Terminal 2, has provided comfort to more than 1,500 traveling veterans and family members. "Sky Harbor does not have a United Service Organization center for military travelers so, something comparable was needed," said Anne Theodosis, PMVHR manager. "Many active-duty and retired members from Luke have used the hospitality room which is funded by donations and staffed by welcoming volunteer hosts." When guests enter the hospitality room they are greeted by hosts who offer refreshments such as snacks, soda, water or juice. Guests can relax on a couch or in recliners while watching television. There is also a computer room and a small library. Adults can read a book or check e-mail while children unleash energy in the playroom. There is even a game room equipped with a foosball table. Hosts are available to answer questions about the Phoenix area or provide additional assistance when needed. For example, a host helped a military spouse who was in need of social services. Hosts have also assisted military travelers with car rentals and hotel accommodations. Today's travel can be frustrating considering travel delays and connecting flights," said Larry Loebach, Air Force veteran and PMVHR volunteer host. "The Military and Veterans Hospitality Room is an oasis where veterans can come and lessen the stress of today's travel." For more information about the PMVHR, go to http://www. phoenixmvhr.org/.
