The 56th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron basketball teams battled during an intramural game Aug. 3 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center. AMXS prevailed 48-42.

The tip-off marked the start of a competitive game for both teams. LRS and AMXS battled back and forth, playing high tempo basketball with no signs of slowing down. Eventually, AMXS took the lead with a score of 23-21 with two minutes left in the first half. LRS played defense and was able to force AMXS turnovers. AMXS held their lead, ending the first half with the score 26-21.

With LRS trailing by five, AMXS was aiming to win and earn a playoff spot.

Quinten Herring, 56th AMXS teammate, took time to speak about his team's performance at halftime.

"Our main focus in the game was to get the team more involved," he said. "We stayed focused the whole first half and were able to get good ball movement. If we keep doing that, the game is ours to win."

AMXS worked as a team and continued their lead, scoring nine unanswered points during the first five minutes of the second half bringing the score to 35-22. LRS wasn't going down without a fight as they also scored nine unanswered points to bring the score to 36-31 with eight minutes left. AMXS shot selection was off and their shots were not falling, which LRS took advantage of. With the AMXS's mishaps, LRS was able to cut the lead to three with the score of 45-42 with 27 seconds left. LRS was determined to regain the lead, but AMXS played well. They were able to hold the ball while getting fouled and then sank the free throws increasing the lead. When it was all over, AMXS was victorious and secured a spot in the playoffs.

"We just need to keep doing what we've been doing this whole season," said Logan Ivey, 56th AMXS teammate. "We also need all of our players to show up. Fresh bodies will definitely help us out in the playoffs."
