LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. --
The 56th Force Support Squadron basketball team took on the Army and Air Force Exchange Service basketball team Jan. 28 at Luke Air Force Base and picked up a 49-44 victory.
The 56th FSS stayed on top, but the game got closer as halftime approached. The first half ended with a score of 20-23.
"We played smart and made sure we kept control of the game the first half," said Koraye Williams, 56th Comptroller Squadron customer support technician from the FSS team. "They really made us work for that lead."
The teams were staying even by matching point-for-point. Team FSS had multiple fouls going into the second half, but were determined to play tough.
As the second half began, the AAFES team managed to even up the score. As AAFES started to get a rhythm going, the FSS team didn't give in, focusing on rebounding and using their speed to their advantage. FSS began to gain steady ground on the score board.
Both teams gave their all, but the defensive strategy of FSS was able to overcome the AAFES team's offensive attack.
The game didn't end without excitement. It was down to the last two minutes, the score was just about even with a difference of two points, but in the end it was FSS with the victory.
