The first pass of the game fell short, foretelling the future for the 56th Fighter Wing Staff Agencies flag football team as they took on the Detachment 12, 372nd Training Squadron.

The final score of the game was 40-14, Det. 12.

As the FWSA gained first downs and approached the end zone, Det. 12 defended harder, resulting in the first interception of the game just five minutes in. Antonio Flores, Det. 12, completed a pass to his receiver for a touchdown, which was followed up with a 2-point conversion.

For the entire first half, Det. 12 managed to defend the end zone from repeated attempts by FWSA. There were multiple turnovers by the end of the first half, but Det. 12 was determined to win the game. They held a 19-0 lead at the half.

"Our goal is to dominate," Flores said. "If we keep playing how we played in the first half we will win this game."

In the second half, FWSA kicked off. Det. 12 responded with Flores throwing a slant pass to Terrence Griffin, Det. 12, who cut toward the middle and ran more than 60 yards for a touchdown.

Det. 12 kept their scoring streak going while FWSA started to improve their game.

FWSA quarterback Dave Deremer, 56th FW Public Affairs, made some impressive throws to his wide receiver, Wade Iverson, 56th FW Staff Judge Advocate, resulting in points on the board.

FWSA gave all they had for the rest of the game. From double covering defenders to man-on-man defense, they were able to stop Det. 12 from gaining positive yards and forced them to turn over the ball. Even with those strategies, Det. 12 was still able to pick up the win.

"We played good football and scored quickly," Flores said. "They were a good team and made good plays, but we just made more."

The FWSA team did not go away discouraged.

"With no practice at all, I think we did well overall," said Kyle Reaves, 56th Comptroller Squadron. "Only thing we really need to focus on is our offense. Small touch-ups here and there and we should be able to win the next game."

The FWSA team came out hard during the second half, Griffin said.

"We didn't give them a chance to come back though," he said. "We turned around and put more points on the board."
